The year started on a very dark note for Oxford supporters: over the past days we have lost three larger than life supporters and fabulous human beings to the covid virus.
Lloyd Calcutt and David Cudd (Cuddy to most) were know to many and held dearly. We also lost John Hedges who many may know from forums dating back over the years. Their kindness, compassion and humour will be sadly missed around games and in the lives of those who knew them well.
Ali, our vice chairman and close friend had this to say about Lloyd…
‘You’d have seen Lloyd Calcutt at many games over the last 30 years. A larger than life character who, despite his hard exterior, was a gentle soul who was there for anyone at anytime.
Lloyd’s cutting comments and dry sense of humour will be missed by many. For those that knew him, following Oxford United will not be the same without him.’
Trevor, secretary and treasurer knew Cuddy and John and had these words to say…
‘Dave (‘Cuddy’) Cudd was an irrepressible character who always raised a smile. Always around the Priory on a match day with his trademark offerings of fridge magnets, mousemats, beanie hats and other items, he raised money for good causes, most notably disabled young Tess Sullivan. He was a pleasure to work with on the 12th Man Fund back in the day’.
‘John was another larger than life character, who in earlier years was a lively and familiar presence on U’s-related internet forums. He will be missed by all who knew him.’
Those of us connected to OxVox, the club and local community will not forget these characters, and we also remember all those people connected to the club that we have lost in the past year.
May they rest in peace.
