10/01/08 - 2008 (Probably not the Year of the Ox)

I gather there is to be a new entry in this year's edition of the Oxford English Dictionary:

Oxford United - An entity which has the ability to create great hope in one instance then dash it entirely in the next.

It is clear that the Altrincham game can now be seen as a 'blip' and that the Weymouth game more accurately reflects how this season has gone and how it will continue to go. Clueless tactics, clueless players, and fans increasingly clueless as to why they bother turning up for what is laughably deemed 'professional' football.  It seems to have got to the stage where we have become a parody of ourselves.  We've been terrible almost exclusively for ten years so the management thought it would be a good laugh to replace all the players with the Keystone Cops just so we can appreciate that players such as Peter Fear and Steve Anthrobus were not really that bad after all.

Blimey, I am being negative today but to be honest I do not really know what else to say. "Shut up then" is the cry I hear from afar but, no, I cannot.  I must rant and I must rave, simply because something has to take away the perpetual misery that is being an Oxford United supporter.

When was the last time we had any luck?! Weymouth's goal summed it all up for me. The referee gives a corner when there is no possible way it could have come off any Oxford player and they take full advantage despite the fates teasing us with making the first shot from six yards come back off the bar.  You could have almost written that script.  When is this awful inevitability going to change? Can it change?!  Answers on a postcard because frankly I've totally run out of ideas.

I will be going to Salisbury on Saturday.  I expect we'll be rubbish and lose.  Even if we win I'm not sure I'll get overly excited because this season is over and I know Conference football awaits for at least another eighteen months and, presumably, a lot longer than that.

If somebody can think of something positive to say at this juncture, then please speak up now or forever hold your peace………….
