OxVox - Oxford United Meeting

20 January 2003

Minutes

Present: Firoz Kassam, Nilu Kanani, Chris Davis, Trevor Lambert, Neil Carter, Jon Moore, Graham Hilsdon.

1. OxVox initiatives

Action: Templars Square should be approached again for sales space over the Easter school holidays. Saturdays April 19 and 26 and possibly 18th (Good Friday) were dates to consider. Contact details for Karen Ritchie, the manager at Templars Square, were passed to Nilu Kanani for follow-up.

Action: OxVox to report back on the level of success of the Witney coach.

Action: OxVox to find out more about what other clubs do and report to club.

OxVox suggested incorporating a programme in the season ticket package as at Rushden and Diamonds.

Action: Club to contact Rushden for details of their experience.

Mr Kassam agreed with OxVox that the lounge package was not working well and needed a rethink, OxVox highlighted the lack of food availability. OxVox also mentioned the lack of hot beverages in the restaurant. The club would consider changes for next season.

OxVox suggested that fans should be given a reference number to quote when buying tickets (as opposed to giving full name and address details), and by this means build up a computerised profile of ticket buying for use in ticket allocation to non-season ticket holders for big games.

2. (Promised) stadium work

Mr Kassam undertook to ensure that three matters were progressed quickly: the stadium sign, which he hoped would be in place in mid-February; the introduction of Sky TVs in the Exhibition Bar, for which the wiring was complete and the TVs were on order; and shelving in the East Stand concourse.

Shelving in other areas could be looked at later. It was agreed that the concourse floors needed cleaning and sealing. Mr Kassam was less keen on painting concourse walls because he felt once painted they would need frequent repainting. Nilu Kanani said that the contractors were looking at sealing as part of snagging tasks around the stadium.

Action: Graham Hilsdon to send comments about work needed to Nilu Kanani.

3. Section 106 work

Mr Kassam confirmed that, as OxVox had mentioned in its recent letter to the Oxford Mail, many of the remaining issues required discussion with councils, which were ongoing. Upgrading the Knights Road path was being dealt with – Mr Kassam said that the works would need planning permission which could cause further delay, e.g. the lighting proposed may be objected to by local residents. He said that the club had paid for transport studies which had not been completed, and had paid for the provision of a football pitch whereupon a BMX track had been produced. He also thought some items had been expensively priced.

Action: The club needed ideas for a work of art and Mr Kassam asked OxVox to consider suggestions.

4. Future contact and meetings

Nilu Kanani would be our regular contact when Mr Kassam is unavailable. She had not been copied minutes of meetings with Peter Davis and Bill Smith; OxVox apologised for the omission.

Mr Kassam was willing to meet OxVox quarterly.

Action: OxVox to suggest dates for next meeting. [Added: OxVox suggests a meeting in the week commencing 7 April]

Mr Kassam and Nilu Kanani would organise a fans forum at which Ian Atkins would also take questions.

Action: Club to organise.

5. Any other business

Mr Kassam confirmed that the player budget for the current season had been spent, and Ian Atkins was happy with the squad. Mr Kassam was concerned about the non-availability of some players due to injury (not illness e.g. Jamie Brooks). Next season will be financially easier with some large player contracts coming to an end.
