Notes of OxVox meeting on Monday 11 June 2007
1. Present
Trevor Lambert, Neil Carter, Graham Hilsden, Jenny Cuff, Bob Scholes and Chris Davis.
2. Apologies
Martin Brodetsky, Ray Whittaker, Tim Rosser and Phil Fugle.
3. Report from Club meeting
The Club’s abridged power-point presentation to be hastened. (sec. note: expected by 18/06/07)
Assurances were received from Simon Lenagan about Youth Development and further details are available in the notes of that meeting on the OxVox web-site.
Committee views will be expanded upon in the forthcoming Newsletter.
Another meeting, this time to involve Nick Merry and Ian Lenagan, is to be arranged for July.
4. Fundraising for sponsorship
£500 now paid to the Club. The framed signed shirt will be picked up by the weekend and the Club will be invited to auction this via their web-site. The balance of the sponsorship money is to be paid by mid-July.
5. 7-a-side competition
Sight of the 2007/08 fixtures is required before an event date and hence venue is selected. Advertising of the event, team invitations, referees and all the domestics will then be sorted out.
6. Newsletter
Some articles have been prepared while others are nearing completion. Those with a membership expiry date of 30/09/07 will also get an early invitation to sign up to the 3 years for the price of 2 deal with a further financial bonus if they renew by the end of August 2007.
7. Open Day 7 July 2007
The Trust will endeavour to have 2 stalls at the event; the second one being purely for children. A competition/game such as table football will be sought for the day.
8. Members’ meeting
The plan is to arrange one for the third week of July, midway between 2 AGMs. A venue is being sought. Additional short pre-match meetings held at intervals during the season would be convenient for fans and would improve communication
9. Date of next meeting
Monday 9 July 2007.
Several meeting dates will be agreed when the Club fixtures are known.
10. Any other business
The committee’s attention was drawn to a long thread of postings on the TiU forum, mainly about a perceived lack of effectiveness of the committee and a view that the committee does not challenge the Club in case, or while, it runs up an unsustainable debt. Some postings descend to abusive and inflammatory comments about individuals and one or two suggest that committee changes are necessary.
The committee rejects both the general accusation that it is not forthright enough when discussing issues with the Club, and the more specific charge that it is condoning increases in the Club debt. However, it accepts that there have been good comments and ideas made by posters. The committee welcomes any assistance that may be forthcoming from those posters. Indeed, there has been a long- standing invitation to members to attend a committee meeting to discuss issues, some members have done so, and the practice will continue.
