We would like to place on record our thanks to all fans who donated money, food, or their time as volunteers to the Oxford Food Bank appeal before Saturday’s game with Sunderland. We also thank Ian Mixter and colleagues for initiating the collection and facilitating it on the day.
As a supporters trust we were well and truly overwhelmed by the response from you all and this was underlined when we heard how much was raised, with Cathy Howard from Oxford Food Bank telling us:
“We took £1,078 on the gate and a further £400 was donated by 2 of the support companies that work with Oxford United. To put that in context, that will keep our 5 vans in fuel for about 3 months (enabling us to collect and redistribute to charities about 100 tons of surplus fresh produce).
We rely solely on the community – businesses and individuals – to fund our seven day-a-week operation and receive no government money. So this level of community involvement was very touching to see and meant a great deal to us all”.
This is something that the club and ourselves at OxVox are hoping to make an annual event so we look forward to it becoming a regular success.
